National Literacy Month: Nurturing the Seeds of Early Literacy

Literacy does not begin when a child first enters school or opens a textbook. It begins much earlier—in the songs children hear, the stories shared with them, and the loving conversations they have with parents and caregivers.
This National Literacy Month, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) celebrates the people who help nurture a child’s first words, first questions, and first discoveries. These early experiences awaken children’s imagination, strengthen their ability to think and communicate, and prepare them for a lifetime of learning.

The first five years are among the most important in a child’s development. When families, caregivers, and educators provide children with responsive care and rich opportunities to listen, speak, sing, play, and explore, they help build a strong foundation for learning and for life. KCFI supports this journey through multimedia learning resources aligned with the goals of the Early Childhood Care and Development Council and the Department of Education.
I Love You 1000: Batang #Laking1000 guides expectant parents and families on nutrition, responsive caregiving, and early learning during a child’s first 1,000 days. Musikantahan and Kwentoons nurture language through songs, rhymes, and stories. As children grow, Ready, Set, Read! and Wikaharian help develop beginning reading, vocabulary, and comprehension in English and Filipino.
KCFI shows for Early Childhood Development to K-3.
Because children learn best when caring adults learn with them, the KCare program equips child development workers, health workers, and parents to create nurturing, language-rich environments for young children. We also bring educational videos and offline learning resources to communities with limited internet access through the Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (KCPML) and the Knowledge Channel TV Package (KCTV). These tools help children continue learning wherever they are, including communities affected by disasters and other disruptions.
At the heart of this work is bayanihan. We are deeply grateful to our partners in local government, educators, child development workers, donors, and parents who share our belief that every Filipino child deserves a strong start. This National Literacy Month, let us continue to fill children’s early years with words, stories, songs, encouragement, and love. Together, we can nurture confident learners and open the door to a brighter future—one child at a time.
