KCFI, Murata Renew Partnership for Environmental Awareness

By Rebelyn S. Beyong

TANAUAN, BATANGAS — To empower the next generation as responsible stewards of nature, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) and the Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata, Inc. (Murata) formally renewed their partnership on June 2, 2026, by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in Tanauan, Batangas, to co-produce a new episode of NEXT LEVEL focused on environmental conservation and distribute five Knowledge Channel TV (KCTV) packages to public schools in Ifugao.

The new phase of this collaboration centers on raising environmental awareness by featuring Murata's own "Eco Heroes." This multimedia initiative taps into the creative minds of Murata employees to highlight pressing environmental issues and actionable solutions for young Filipino learners.

“Through this video project, featuring our environmental heroes, we aim not only to promote environmental awareness but also to recognize and celebrate the creativity of our employees,” said Murata Administration Director Mitsuki Notsu during the signing. “Naniniwala kami na ang kabataan ang susi sa pagprotekta ng ating kalikasan. We believe that through collaboration, creativity, and education, we can empower the next generation.”

Expanding access beyond borders

Building on last year’s successful turnover of five KCTVs to schools in Baguio City, the renewed partnership will now deliver these comprehensive digital learning packages to public schools, this time in Ifugao. These KCTV packages come pre-loaded with more than 1,500 curriculum-based video lessons that bridge critical learning gaps in areas with limited internet connectivity.

Echoing this shared vision, KCFI President and Co-Founder Rina Lopez highlighted the vital, long-term impact of integrating environmental advocacy into fundamental education.

“Through this new video lesson on environmental awareness, we hope to inspire young learners to understand the challenges facing our planet and to realize that they can be part of the solution. By nurturing environmental consciousness at an early age, we are planting seeds that can bloom into a generation of responsible stewards who will care for and protect our world,” Lopez said.

KCFI Vice President Edric Calma emphasized the importance of this expanding reach, noting that the educational content is broadcast nationwide through DepEd TV powered by Knowledge Channel.

“As environmental challenges continue to shape our world today, it is important that learners are equipped not only with knowledge, but also with awareness, responsibility, and action-oriented values,” Calma shared. “Through engaging and age-appropriate educational content, we hope to encourage learners to better understand environmental issues and recognize their role in protecting our planet and our communities.”

The enduring alliance between KCFI and Murata previously birthed the K–12 Science program NEXT LEVEL. Launched early this year, its inaugural episode explored the real-world applications of capacitors, electric current, and electromagnetic waves.

Murata General Manager Janet Inocencio expressed her profound enthusiasm for the project’s continuous evolution and the revival of their eco-characters.

“After the first project, and it was very successful, I told our [team] to use our characters because I believe they can be more useful for the community to promote the environment. I believe it is our destiny to meet,” she beamed, adding that the partnership acts as the perfect tool to bring their innovative ideas to life.

This renewed MOA proves that when corporate responsibility meets educational innovation, the impact extends far beyond the four corners of a classroom. Together, KCFI and Murata are not merely broadcasting science lessons; they are actively cultivating a greener, future-ready Philippines—one student, one screen, and one eco-hero at a time.
