The Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) marks its 27th year of championing accessible, quality education this June as it advances initiatives for School Year (SY) 2026–2027 in line with the Department of Education’s (DepEd) transition to a three-term school calendar. Building on nearly three decades of sustained work in educational media and teacher support, KCFI is strengthening a more responsive and aligned learning ecosystem through realigned programming, continued production of curriculum-aligned video lessons, and expanded capacity-building efforts that enhance classroom delivery.

To ensure continuity across the restructured academic year, Knowledge Channel which also appears on DepEd TV has mapped broadcasting grid to DepEd’s Opening, Instructional, and End-of-Term phases, ensuring video lessons are delivered in step with classroom needs throughout the school cycle. The channel is available nationwide through cable, direct-to-home satellite service, digital free TV, online streaming through iWant and Cignal Play, and the School Anywhere block on Kapamilya Channel on cable and free TV via ALLTV, and A2Z.

KCFI has also launched the Knowledge Channel Learning Hub (knowledgechannel.org/learning-hub), a dedicated subsite that equips teachers and parents with ready-to-use teaching guides, curated video lessons, thematic activities, and quick explainers, making quality learning resources more accessible across both classroom and home settings.

Preparing Educators through Capacity-building

The LearnCon provided participants with practical approaches to integrating multimedia into activities.

To bolster the capabilities of educators ahead of the school year, KCFI conducted Knowledge Channel Learning Conferences (LearnCon) throughout the month of May. “MEDIAskarteng Pagtuturo: Empowering CDTs, CDWs and Early Learning Facilitators with Multimedia-Supported Strategies” on May 9 focused on practical strategies for integrating multimedia into play-based, child-centered, and developmentally appropriate learning. Dr. Rita Lucas (Dean, Centro Escolar University School of Education) discussed how media supports cognitive and socio-emotional development, while Dannah Ong (ECD Consultant, KCFI) demonstrated how Knowledge Channel video lessons can be extended into hands-on activities such as singing, drawing, and movement games.

The LearnCon provided participants with Play-Based and Inquiry-Driven strategies for teaching.

The second LearnCon conducted on May 23 in partnership with City Savings Bank, explored "The Power of Play: Play-Based and Inquiry-Driven Learning Through Video Lessons." This LearnCon highlighted insights from Ramona Magdalena Victoria, a Senior Education Program Specialist at the DepEd Central Office’s Bureau of Curriculum Development. Teachers in attendance discovered methods for blending play-based and inquiry-based frameworks with multimedia, employing video content as catalysts for discovery-focused classroom activities and crafting lesson plans that foster critical thinking skills.

The LearnCon provided participants with Multimedia-Enhanced instructional strategies for teaching Foundational Literacy.

The third LearnCon, conducted on May 30, entitled “Smart Screen Time: Strengthening Foundational Literacy through Multimedia-Enhanced Instructional Strategies,” featured Dr. Maria Alicia Bustos-Orosa, professorial lecturer at De La Salle University - Manila. The session focused on strengthening evidence-based literacy instruction through immersive multimedia resources designed to improve decoding, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Teachers who participated in the LearnCons are eligible to receive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

Beyond online capacity-building initiatives, KCFI continues to deliver on-ground teacher training. From May 6 to 8, with support from Xylem Watermark, 80 teachers from 10 schools in Calamba City, Laguna upskilled with KCFI’s Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-Based Pedagogies (LEEP) program, equipping them with learner-centered, inquiry-based, and differentiated teaching strategies that leverage curriculum-aligned video lessons to promote critical thinking, creativity, and active classroom engagement.
