MANDALUYONG CITY — The Department of Education (DepEd) awarded the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) with two accolades during its Partners' Appreciation Program on May 8, 2026 in Mandaluyong City.

KCFI Vice President Edric Calma received for KCFI a Certificate of Recognition and a Plaque of Appreciation both of which highlight the foundation’s unwavering commitment to the delivery of quality education that empowers.

Carrying the theme, “Partnerships” that endure. Reforms that last,” the event recognized organizations and institutions that contribute to the improvement of Philippine education and the future of Filipino learners.

The first award, a framed Certificate of Recognition, specifically highlights KCFI’s "unwavering commitment for more than 25 years of dedicated partnership" with DepEd.

The second, an intricately carved wooden Plaque of Appreciation, commends the foundation's "dedication and outstanding support in the delivery of quality education."

KCFI expressed its gratitude to DepEd and its partners for the continued trust and collaboration in advancing learning opportunities for Filipino children and communities. “Maraming salamat po, DepEd, sa pagpapahalaga! Tuloy-tuloy po ang paglilingkod ng KCFI para makabuluhan at sa may kalidad na pag-aaral at edukasyon ng kabataang Filipino,” said Calma.

The recognition reflects KCFI’s longstanding commitment to supporting DepEd in providing accessible, curriculum-aligned, engaging and meaningful educational content for Filipino learners nationwide. Sinde 1999 or 27 years ago, KCFI has worked closely with DepEd through initiatives such as the development and broadcast/delivery to public schools and homes of DepEd curriculum-aligned video lessons and relevant capacity building programs for teachers, principals, and schools division superintendents. Last year, KCFI and DepEd signed an agreement on the revival of DepEd TV with KCFI as programming, content and nationwide broadcast partner.

“Our partnership ... is a continuous crossing. It meets the learner in doubt, the teacher in transition, and the community in need. And with each step, it changes direction,” said DepEd Secretary Edgardo “Sonny” Angara. “Indeed, education is a shared mission. And nation-building begins when we choose to work together,” he added.

The event gathered education partners from local and international public and private organizations.

Empowering teachers through different initiatives

KCFI’s mission extends far beyond the classroom screen; it continuously empowers educators and learners. Over the years, KCFI in partnership with DepEd, has pioneered programs like Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies (LEEP), equipping principals and teachers with 21st-century pedagogies, and provision of Knowledge Channel learning resources to support teaching and learning.

KCFI has also been hosting online conferences that not only foster a rich community of shared practices but also allow teachers to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points that they need to beef up their skills and renew their teaching licenses.

DepEd TV powered by Knowledge Channel

A major cornerstone of this new collaboration between DepEd and KCFI, is "DepEd TV powered by Knowledge Channel." DepEd has through a memorandum order, endorsed the viewing of Knowledge Channel video lessons that are seen both on DepEd TV and Knowledge Channel.

In March 2026, KCFI in supporting the initiative has also signed a new memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Cable and Telecommunications Association (PCTA) on carriage by its member-cable operators with the purpose of extending Knowledge Channel’s cable service reach. “What we have built is not just a channel, but a learning ecosystem,” Calma emphasized. “Knowledge Channel is the primary media partner of the Department of Education… and Knowledge Channel is DepEd TV.”

As KCFI steps into its 27th year, these twin awards from DepEd serve not as a race finish line prize, but as a renewed call to action. Armed with expanding networks, innovative and responsive programs and platforms, and an unyielding passion for teaching and learning, KCFI continues its noble mission: ensuring that no Filipino child is left behind, one screen, one classroom at a time.
