In a month-long celebration of the nation’s educators, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) dedicated its efforts to honoring and empowering teachers and child development workers through awards, training, and new collaborations from September to October.

The celebration was highlighted with the awarding of the finalists and winners of the Gurong May K: Best Teachers of Knowledge Channel Awards on September 29. The initiative recognizes exceptional K-12 teachers and Child Development Workers/Teachers (CDW/Ts) who skillfully use Knowledge Channel videos and 21st-century strategies to inspire and engage learners.

The top honors were awarded to Jonathan Mayo of San Pedro National High School in Sto. Tomas, Batangas for Basic Education (K-10) category, and Zarlina Bacadon of National Child Development Center Naawan, Misamis Oriental for Early Childhood Development (ECD) category. Winners received P50,000 cash, a Knowledge Channel TV (KCTV) package for their school, a trophy, and a certificate. KCTV is a smart TV package with an external hard drive loaded with curriculum-based video lessons and videos for ECD. Finalists were awarded with P10,000 cash each and a Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (KCPML)—an offline learning tool containing curriculum-based video lessons, e-games, and session guides designed for various learning modalities.

Alongside honoring educators, KCFI also recognized learners through Kabataang May K initiative, which features compelling essays and photos from learners on how Knowledge Channel has inspired their education.

Empowering Thousands through Training and Partnerships

KCFI continued to provide professional development opportunities through “Your Knowledge Matters” online conference, in partnership with City Savings Bank on September 27 and October 4. The two-part series engaged over 14,000 educators, focusing on strengthening reading instruction and enhancing numeracy skills. During the conference, six lucky teachers won KCPMLs while ten attendees won ₱250 cash prizes.

This series aims to empower teachers with content knowledge, strategies, confidence, and resources needed to create engaging learning experiences. It underscores the vital role of educators in shaping young minds by fostering collaboration and demonstrating how video-based teaching can build core academic competencies.

The foundation’s commitment to its partners was also recognized as KCFI was honored as an invaluable partner by the Schools Division Office of Marikina City during its Coffee Break with Partners event on September 18. This affirms years of collaboration on projects like Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies (LEEP), video lesson productions, EcoProject, EcoPlay, and more recently, the LarOlympics.

On October 2, KCFI and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (Phil) Inc. (FICCI) entered into a partnership to implement the Knowledge Channel Early Childhood Care and Education (KCARE) Program, a comprehensive training program for child development workers, health workers, and parents in Taytay, Rizal.

The objective of KCARE is to provide comprehensive, holistic training on ECD to key community stakeholders. For CDWs, the program is highly beneficial as it directly upskills them with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to provide effective stimulation, care, and education for children ages 3 to 4. They are equipped with tangible resources like the KCPML and supported through online coaching, enabling them to improve early learning outcomes and foster a thriving educational environment.

KCFI also launched Gen H: Generation Healthy, a new video lesson series with AIA Philippines, in Naga Central School II on October 8 to empower learners with knowledge on health, well-being, and environmental responsibility. The event was graced by Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, representatives from the Schools Division Office of Naga City, and the Department of Education.

Bringing Learning to More Communities

KCFI, with the support of its partners, successfully turned over KCPMLs to Kanawan Integrated School in Bataan through Salesforce, and six schools in Dagupan City received KCTV packages in partnership with Aboitiz Power subsidiary GNPower Mariveles Coal Plant Ltd. Co. (GNPower Mariveles) and Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP).

In celebration of World Tourism Month, KCFI and First Gen-Energy Development Corporation (EDC) launched a new episode of its educational travel show, "Wow," in Kidapawan City on September 30. The episode explores the rich biodiversity of Mt. Apo, featuring the endemic Apo Myna, and the vibrant culture of Kidapawan.
