Lopez Link KCFI Column - July 2026

Every new school year is a renewed promise to Filipino learners, a chance to learn, dream, and build a brighter future. Guided by its mission to ensure that no learner is left behind, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) continues to bridge education gaps through innovative educational media, teaching technologies and meaningful partnerships. This month, KCFI provided access to quality education, empowering more schools, teachers, and learners while achieving milestones that reflect its growing impact.

KCFI received nominations at the inaugural FAMAS Broadcast Arts Awards with Kinder Yes! and WOW Kidapawan. Nominated for Best Educational Show, Kinder Yes! is a series funded through a grant from the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) that builds foundational concepts and promotes positive Filipino values among young children. Meanwhile, nominated for Best Documentary, WOW is KCFI’s educational travel show that explores the rich geography, history, and culture of various Philippine localities to help learners appreciate their heritage. Its Kidapawan episode, co-produced with First Gen–Energy Development Corporation (EDC), highlights the area's rich biodiversity and the conservation of the Apo Myna. KCFI Vice President and WOW host Edric Calma also received a nomination for Best Host for Entertainment, recognizing his engaging onscreen presence and his ability to effectively guide viewers through the country’s natural heritage and biodiversity. The FAMAS Broadcast Arts Awards night is set for July 20 at The Manila Hotel.

On the ground, KCFI and Megawide Foundation partnered to expand learning opportunities across Mega Manila. United by a shared goal of narrowing gaps in access to quality education, Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (KCPML) and Knowledge Channel TV (KCTV) packages were rolled out to 8 beneficiary schools and Child Development Centers (CDCs) across Cavite, Metro Manila, and Rizal. The KCPML and KCTV packages provide offline access to up to 1,500 curriculum-aligned video lessons, educational games, and session guides, supporting learners and educators from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to high school.

KCFI Vice President Edric Calma, who is also the Vice Chair of the Board of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), presented at the 15th anniversary of DOST-STII’s STARBOOKS. Discussing KCFI's multimedia initiatives alongside LCF's framework for stakeholder collaboration, he highlighted how STARBOOKS integrates KCFI’s disaster preparedness modules and the Estudyantipid financial literacy show into its digital library reaching remote schools and communities across the archipelago.

Further championing science education, more public school learners gained deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship. On July 9, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) and the Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata, Inc. (Murata) officially launched the new episode of “Next Level” on environmental conservation and awareness. By highlighting real-world sustainability initiatives and practical environmental practices, the episode empowers learners to adopt sustainable habits and become responsible stewards of the environment.

The launch was accompanied by a turnover of five KCTV packages to public high schools in Ifugao, symbolizing the partners' shared commitment to expanding access to engaging, curriculum-aligned educational resources. The actual turnover and distribution of the KCTV packages were carried out the following day, bringing quality educational content and the newly launched episode directly into classrooms where they can enrich teaching and learning.
