26 Years of Learning

KCFI celebrates twenty-six years of transforming the lives of Filipino children through education innovation

The Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) is celebrating its 26th founding anniversary this June, continuing its legacy as a leader in education innovation through media and technology. For over two decades, KCFI has helped bridge learning gaps in the Philippines by providing millions of Filipino children with access to quality, curriculum-based educational content.

KCFI has reached more than 5.6 million learners through on-air, online, and offline platforms

Since 1999, KCFI has connected public schools through cable and satellite technologies, equipped classrooms with television sets, and later, developed offline learning solutions like the Knowledge Channel Portable Media Library (KCPML) and Knowledge Channel TV (KCTV). These efforts enabled the foundation to deliver quality video lessons even to the remotest communities, from the cliffs of Itbayat, Batanes to the shores of Sitangkay, Tawi-Tawi.

Throughout the years, KCFI has produced thousands of curriculum-based video lessons for Early Childhood Development (ECD), and core subjects in K-12 such as English, Filipino, Math, Science, Araling Panlipunan, and Physical Education. As of 2025, KCFI has reached more than 5.6 million learners across Child Development Centers (CDCs), public elementary and high schools, and Alternative Learning System (ALS) centers nationwide.

KCFI offers teacher training programs for both ECD and Basic Education

KCFI has also trained Child Development Workers/Teachers (CDW/Ts) and basic education teachers and principals, through its comprehensive teacher training programs. These include KCARE, on holistic care of children aged 0-4 for CDW/Ts and other care providers of children, and Learning Effectively through Enhanced and Evidence-based Pedagogies (LEEP), which equips educators with essential tools, knowledge, and 21st-century skills to help bridge learning gaps and improve learning outcomes.

As KCFI welcomes the coming school year, it continues to develop innovative, engaging, and effective solutions to support learning. Among these are Musikantahan, a sing-along series for young children featuring Filipino songs and poems teaching values, oracy and promoting listening comprehension; Kinder Yes!, an engaging show for kindergarten that incorporates language learning with creativity, critical thinking skills, and values; Ready, Set, Read!, a series focused on developing essential reading and listening comprehension skills in English; Wikaharian, a comprehensive language and literacy video series that supports reading in Filipino and fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of culture and linguistic heritage; and MathDali, a series that uses real-world, locally contextualized situations and examples to make learning math easier and fun; and Wow, a travel show that highlights beautiful and historical places and rich culture and heritage of the Philippines’ provinces, cities, and towns.

This month, KCFI previewed two new episodes of Wow which features Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) Flagship Species Initiative’s (FSI) Visayan Hornbill and Apo Myna in Negros Island and Kidapawan, Cotabato respectively at the recently concluded launch of the Lopez Envi Festival. The Wow twin bill is a collaboration between EDC and KCFI, which is aimed at bringing awareness on the environment by highlighting flagship species.

Edric Calma, Vice President of Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI)

KCFI Vice President Edric Calma encourages the Lopez Group employees present during the launch to view the new Wow episodes with a deeper perspective. “I invite you to watch these two episodes with this outlook: Hindi lang ito tungkol sa mga ibon at kalikasan, ito rin ay isang tawag sa publiko at sa mga korporasyon tulad sa atin para mas tumulong pa at protektahan ang mayamang kalikasan.” said Calma.

As KCFI enters its 26th year, its commitment to bridging education gaps and championing lifelong learning through curriculum-aligned video lessons, offline learning solutions, and teacher training and mentoring programs, directly reflects its mission to be responsible stewards and co-creators of transformative learning experiences. By reaching more learners across the country, one video lesson at a time, KCFI specifically serves its commitment especially to the poor and marginalized Filipino children and communities, ensuring that quality education is accessible to all.
