Starting January 28, Knowledge Channel will activate its Emergency Education Programming to give teachers and students the opportunity to catch up on their lessons by watching curriculum-based programs of Knowledge Channel.
Under the Emergency Education Programming, lessons or episodes from two weeks ago will be aired on Tuesdays and Saturdays while episodes from one week ago will be aired on Thursdays and Sundays. This scheme will give students, teachers and parents affected by various calamities to continue learning through television.
Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) president and executive director Rina Lopez-Bautista expressed the urgency of starting the program. “Our country is so vulnerable to disasters that this has become the new norm. We believe it is our duty to ensure that kids continue to learn. The longer they are out of school because of these calamities, the less likely they are to return.”
The Emergency Education Programming is part of KCFI’s EduKalidad sa Kalamidad: Emergency Education Program in partnership with SKY and the Department of Education. Initiated after the Taal Eruption last January 12, it aims to deliver TV sets with Knowledge Channel resources and train teachers on how to utilize technology and media to more than 20 evacuation centers and/or schools in Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna.
