| Knowledge Channel Commemorates World Environment Day |
| June 03, 2010 |
But what exactly is World Environment Day about? The United Nations came up with World Environment Day in order to create awareness, stimulate global concern and political attention, and inspire positive action towards environmental issues and problems. At a time when natural and man-made calamities linked to global warming, climate change and biological extinction are continuously occurring, a day such as this is much needed. A different city hosts the World Environment Day exposition every year and this 2010, Rwanda is the global host for the World Environment Day Expo. The theme for the year is “Many Species. One Planet. One Future” in connection with the International Year of Biodiversity which is also celebrated this year. Rwanda, just like the Philippines, is a country known for its incomparable biodiversity. It was also the perfect choice for WED host this year because over the years, Rwanda has made significant steps towards protecting and preserving its natural wonders. On June 5, Knowledge Channel will commemorate World Environment Day by airing back-to-back eco-friendly programs. Our World in a Changing Climate will air on 6:20am-6:40am, 12:20pm-12:40pm and 6:20-6:40pm pre-empting Kasaysayan TV while ASEAN’s Natural Treasures will be shown on 6:40-7:00am, 12:40-1:00pm and 6:40-7:00pm pre-empting Art Jam. Environmental reminders on energy conservation and ecological preservation created by Greenpeace and hosted by Richard Gutierez and Angel Aquino will also be shown in between the two documentaries.

Every year since 1973, World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5. World Environment Day (WED) was brought about by the United Nations Conference on Human Rights which was held from the 5th to the 12th of June in 1972. The following year after that conference, the very first World Environment Day was celebrated in numerous cities all over the world.
