| Knowledge Channel Foundation to switch off for Earth Hour 2010 |
| March 28, 2010 |
At exactly 8:30pm on the 27th of March 2010, the Knowledge Channel Foundation will switch off their lights for one hour along with hundreds of millions of organizations, communities and individuals all over the world. This massive show of dedication to sustainable development is part of Earth Hour 2010 which is organized by WWF (World Wildlife Fund). Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007 where over 2 million homes, communities and businesses switched off their lights for one hour to show their stand against climate change. Just three years later, Earth Hour is now global phenomenon that attracts hundreds of millions of participants all dedicated towards resolving issues about global warming. The 2009 Earth Hour was considered as the biggest event so far, having participants from more than 4000 cities in 88 countries. The Pyramids of Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Times Square in New York and numerous other landmarks were plunged in darkness for one hour last year as a call for positive actions towards the resolution of a global issue that becomes more urgent by the day. When asked to stand against climate change in 2009, the Filipinos showed an impressive willingness to participate in this symbolic stand against climate change. The Philippines ranked No. 1 worldwide in terms of public participation and this came as no surprise since schools, businesses, private organizations and entire communities all over the country rallied together to show their support for Earth Hour 2009. Along with Knowledge Channel Foundation, countless other businesses and establishments will turn off their lights on March 27. Among the millions that have already pledged their participation in the worldwide event are several famous landmarks including Taipei 101, the Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Palace in Bangkok and even the Las Vegas strip. This year, it is expected that more people would find their voice through Earth Hour. The public awareness being created by this awe-inspiring initiative has been able to bring to light many climate change issues to the attention of the public including issues about carbon emission, sustainable energy alternatives, wildlife extinction, the La Nina and El Nino phenomena, arctic meltdown and the growing intensity of natural disasters to name a few. Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. calls for schools, educational institutions, businesses, foundations and communities to pledge their participation in the 2010 Earth Hour. Turn off your lights for one hour on March 27 and help contribute to a brighter future for all. |
