ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

Here in Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI), we dream of a world where children have access to quality basic education so that they can use their uniqueness and greatness for themselves and others. Through the use of television, KCFI is working towards the realization of this dream by delivering quality education to one student, one classroom, and one school at a time.

Established as a non-stock, non-profit organization, it is the Foundation′s primary objective to educate and empower poor and marginalized children through media so that they can realize their full potential to best serve their communities and help build a better world.

Formerly known as the SKY Foundation, KCFI is a corporate social responsibility arm of the Lopez Group of Companies. Its President and Executive Director, Rina Lopez-Bautista, founded it in response to the urgent need to improve the level of education in the country.

Currently, the Foundation′s main thrust is to provide and install satellite infrastructure and cable TV facilities in order to deliver educational TV materials to help improve the academic performance of the Filipino student in major subject areas such as English, Math and Science. Aside from basic subjects, KCFI is also bringing content development to a new level by weaving in values and lessons students can develop through awareness in critical issues such as the environment, health, education, governance, population and peace.

On-the-ground efforts are also being pursued through the Knowledge Channel Foundation′s Volunteer Development Team and its Social Mobilization Group. Teacher trainings, satellite and cable installation, outreach activities and volunteer services are just some of the on-going activities that they are currently involved in.

Aside from on-air and on-the-ground efforts, Knowledge Channel Foundation is expanding into other platforms in order to align its goals and strategies with that of the rest of the world. Online efforts have been explored and a New Media Team was formed in 2008. As of the moment, KCFI maintains two websites: KnowledgeChannel.org which serves as its corporate website, and KChOnline.ph which provides students, parents and teachers access to educational games and videos, reviewers, teacher and parent guides, and several other useful features.

All these efforts by the Foundation are geared towards one direction, and that is to be able to reach more, teach more and touch more lives.
